Reviews for Quadratec Aluminum Roof Rack for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited 4-Door
Easy (and fun) to put together! It took two people to lift it up to the Jeep's roof, but once it was up there, it was simple to get it tightened down. It's a convenient spot to strap down an extra cooler, some recovery gear, and other things without taking up any room inside the Jeep. It's very sturdy! I also just love how it looks.
Light and it will accommodate the sunrider top
Great rack!!! I use it to hold kayaks and luggage regularly! Not to mention a great place to hang garland and Christmas lights.
With 2 adults, 2 kids, and 1 dog we needed to free up inside space to maintain sanity. Rack assembly and installation was a 1 person job, taking ~2 1/2 hrs. We’ve taken a couple of trips and the rack handles all the bulky, lighter weight items perfectly. Solid construction, coating, and lots of lashing points makes this exactly what we were looking for. Ability to take off Freedom panels was a must for us too. Of course, customer service and quick delivery from Quadratec was a given. Quadratec, please design/source a sliding awning system for this rack, it would make it over the top!
I have had this installed for a few weeks on my JKU and used it for a week long overland trip and I am of mixed feelings.
Assembly & Installation: Assembly was easy but the supplied instructions for the JKU made the Installation significantly more difficult than it should have been. In retrospect for a JKU one should follow the JL or JT instructions for the gutter mount. You will save a ton of hassle and frustration in trying to get the bolts and nuts with washers to mount between the feet and the basket if you do it on a table vs trying to do it on top of your jeep. The rear window mounts are easier but still, overall with a good helper to carefully lift into place and mount the basket the frustration would have been significantly reduced if instructed to assemble on the table with the rest of the basket just like the JL and JT.
Use: I started out the trip with several large bulky items on the rack but by day three almost everything was moved inside and the only things left up top were recovery gear. I guess it was easier to just throw the rest in the back than to climb up and lash it down with bungees every day; and since it was just me and my dog we were not hurting for interior space, ymmv.
Overall: The roof rack is sturdy, when installed it rock solid and is fixed very firmly to the jeep top. Even with 7 gallons of water sloshing about on the rack it held firm under off road conditions (the bungee not so much). I wish it was an inch or two shorter, as is I just can't quite fit through my garage opening and will have to take it off potentially in the future.
Wishes: I would love an awning attachment for this rack from Quadratec to cover the side and rear. I know its a smaller rack to would not expect a huge awning, but something might be better than nothing.
Rack is very sturdy and was for the most part simple to install, 2 people definitely needed to actually put the rack onto the roof. Normal driving conditions is quite but on bumpy roads is very noisy on my Jeep. Was able to easily add 2 KC C9 lights to it using the racks existing bolt mounts. Very pleased
