Reviews for MasterTop Bimini Top Plus for 18-23 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited
NOTE: This is a secondary review; Quadratec does not allow for that on their webpage so they had to delete my first review so I could register this one. As a result, I will highlight my first review and follow it by the second.
1st Review: On about the 15th of May this year, 2020, I received a MasterTop Bimini to for my 2019 JL. When attempting to put it on, I noticed a lot more straps than on my previous JK Bimini with a header. The leaderless top looked like it fit well, but above 40 mph, the center of the top would raise up and it was impossible to get it tight enough to stay down. So, I cut slits near the center of the plastic runner sewn into the front of the top and inserted two nylon webbing straps like those on the top that I ordered on another site. They worked great. I also said that most of the straps were a little too short for wrapping around the various connection points to be able to adequately grip them for tightening. Outside of those two issues and the fact that the leaderless tops are a lot harder to put on, I really liked the performance of the top with my modifications.
2nd Review: About a month or so later, MasterTop contacted me directly. Much to my surprise, they had read my review and responded, “We were looking at the recent reviews on our Bimini Plus Top for your JLU Jeep Wrangler on the Quadratec website and saw you had a bad experience with our product. We take these reviews very seriously and want to do what we can to make the situation right. The product you purchased is a new product and it looks like we had some issues with the front windshield attachment. It has been since up-dated and we want to send you a NO CHARGE sample for your review and use.”
Of course, I said yes.
Upon receiving the replacement top, I noticed they had made the exact changes I wrote about originally. Two new center straps in the front and all the other straps were longer. The new top fits great, just like the first one, but this time it stays in place even at 70 mph in the highway. Additionally, the longer straps make it possible to “tuck” them after tightening. The leaderless top is still harder to apply than one with a steel header bar, but I have to say I like the look and overall fit better than the one I had on my 2010 JK. I highly recommend MasterTop for their customer service, attention to detail, and personalized attention I received.

Love the Bimini top and looks great on my JLUR. I must have the updated one with the wind stopper and Tonneau cover. It is relatively easy to install and has saved me in 3 big rain storms with the doors off. It won’t stop all the water but it is better than getting fully drenched and having to dry your car out for a few days. No problems with header separation from the wind shield at speed and the straps are a bit too long now. Only complaints are that I had to trim the straps a bit and add retaining loops to the straps so they wouldn’t hang down and flap in the wind and look sloppy. Second complaint is that it does flap a little bit over the speaker bar at speed despite being tight. Despite that, I still recommend. The tonneau cover works great even when top is off and the wind stopper keeps rain from being blown back in from behind when driving over 70 mph.
well made looks nice i havent had a chance to try it out yet but it look forward to trying it
A strap to hold the front broke in the first two weeks I had the bimini top.
Just got the top good quality poor design. Thought it would fit under the 3 piece hard top but doesn’t. They need to make cut outs for the freedom panel latches and holes for the guide pins so you wouldn’t have to take it on and off every time you want to use it. Wish I would have researched it better before buying that’s on me
Love the tightness of the Bimini. The issue we have had is the front strap buckles that attach to the locator brackets after three installations, have torn and buckles have broken. Need a better product for this. Plastic and poorly sewn straps making the loop with the buckle are not working.
Basically, this top is OK, but there are 2 issues: 1) the photos show the top going over the top of the doors. It does not. It wraps over the roll cage only, leaving the inside unprotected in a moderate rain storm, 2) the bead at the front pops out in the middle every time an 18 wheeler blows past you. While this top is definitely a step above nothing, it could still use some improvement.
It's been a real challenge getting the top to stay in the track. There's got to be a better way
Does not fit a JL with advanced safety features, only those with a standard rear view mirror. The straps that secure the front of the top do not work around the structure housing the sensors for Adaptive Cruise Control & Advanced Brake-Assist features.
Unfortunately I did not know this in time to return the top - Quadratec should include these details in the product description.
