Reviews for Rust Buster Front Shackle & Steering Box Mount Section for 87-95 Jeep Wrangler YJ
Everything worked as described. My only gripe was kinda self inflicted. You have to grind the welds on the replacement part in order to get the bumper to fit over it. Unfortunately I didn't think to do that where the steering bracket bolted to the frame repair piece as well. So, there I was, part tacked into place and all the gearbox bolt holes were off, once I realized they were off by the thickness of the welds and I took it off and ground them down, it all came together. The instructions didn't say anything about grinding down the welds to make it fit, but that's kind of an implied thing if you're tackling a job like this.
Overall, it saved me a pile of time vs. trying to fabricobble something on my own.
So far a good fit
My review is exactly the same of previous customer Daniel M. Once everything install it
you need to deal with the hole problem that nothing coincide with the original settings
all measures are off. Errors happen all the time but it's not fair for customers to deal with it after everything welded get this night mare surprise it will be nice of you guys t take responsibility for it .
Not a Happy customer Nelson
I bought two of these (both sides) to repair the frame on my son's 1995 YJ. First, let me say they are indeed solid, and the welding is excellent. Why two stars? Because the only dimensions that were correct were the shackle mount and front round crossmember diameters. Everything else was off. The frame section is too tall (bumper won't fit without modification), steering gear mounting bolts are not set correctly (bracket had to be modified in several ways to make it fit). Even the welded nuts inside the frame sections are different from side to side. In my case, it would have been cheaper to pay a fabricator to completely remanufacture these parts. I bought these knowing the guy I had doing the work *could* have done it himself, but was trying to save him grief and time. In fact, buying these cost me more time and money than just having him stick build these parts.
Again, let me give props, in that they are solid. And I have every reason to believe they will hold up, and YES, they do require fabrication skills to install.
But sadly they also required nearly the same fab skill level to make everything work except installing the shackles -- completely negating the "cost savings" of buying off the shelf "correct" replacement parts.
