Reviews for Rough Country Solid Steel Front Grab Handles for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Although these are very sturdy, they were a royal pain to install. It took forever to get the bolts to align with the thread holes. Also it should be noted that these WILL NOT WORK WELL IF USING THE STEALTH LIGHT BAR, because these grab handles fit close the windshield. I found out the hard way and am now having to replace my windshield because it cracked as I was tightening the grab. (photo attached if approved)
Good quality
Solid product but!
When you remove the bolts the "roll cage" tends to drop slightly. Just barely enough that its tough to thread the bolt in without lifting it up a tiny bit. Problem is there's no good fulcrum to get leverage against.
So if the bolts were simply tapered they would go in quite easily
The product itself is of good sturdy quality, once in they are really strong and I don't foresee anyone bending or breaking these bad boys off.
However,
Installation was a real pain, removing the old bolts no problem, the new bolts, not so easy.
The thread on the new bolts is perfect, if you screw in the new bolts INDIVIDUALLY they go in like a hot knife into butter, BUT, once you put the bolts in the handles and through the supplied spacers its a whole other ballgame. The problem is that the angle the the handle allows the bolts to move at is different than the angle the body is needing, the result being that you can screw one bolt in but then the second bolt is not at the correct angle to thread it in. I eventually FORCED the bolt to both thread in all the way and I'm pretty sure if I take them out now they, or the body, will be stripped. But they are in so I am leaving them there and don't plan on taking them out because I don't want to see what happened after I forced them in.
You might think that maybe I am new to customizing or working on vehicles, I assure you I am not, I have rebuilt engines, I know my way around tools and nuts and bolts.
This was on an 08 Wrangler X Unlimited.
Installation was impossible. Never could get the bolts to go in. I even tried to install the bolts without the handles. Still wouldn't go in. Will have to take them to the Jeep dealer to have them installed.
