Reviews for Mopar Hard Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover for 20-22 Jeep Gladiator JT
went in easy first time. no leaks very happy
Great product, easy to DIY install, looks great.
Great cover. Fits like a glove and hardware is not visible. Downside is, it’s not an easy install. Some of the bolts you use are out of the way so well, it’s just hard to tighten them up.
Factory gear.
I received the cover thru UPS, the box showed signs of rough treatment during shipment but packaging was good enough that no damage was done to contents. The instructions were very good and the cover looks great as I would expect from a factory part. The drivers side rail assembly fit perfectly but the passengers side rail required modifications.(The part of the rail that the cover actually sits on was to long (1/2 inch) with the front flush against the bulkhead.) I trimmed it with die grinder so the tailgate would close. The rear mounting holes were elongated but not enough I had to match drill them to the factory threaded holes in the bed. They were about 1/2 inch off also.
Maybe I misread the advertisements for this cover but I thought the front portion could be raised without lifting the rear portion to allow front access (Not so)
I also thought that there was a locking mechanism that allowed lifting without lowering the tailgate. (Also not so)
The cover deserves 5 star rating for its looks it is the best looking cover I have seen. I took away a star becuse of the fitment issues that I experienced. The cover keeps water out as it should and it locks securly to protect my gear. Very happy.
It's nice looking, is solid and works well. However, with a cover like this there are certain expectations especially if you know what to look for. There are 2 areas where it does not meet expectations.
1. The panel closest to the back window folds up. Nice. But wait, there's no way of keeping it there. There is no bracket/arm that attaches so that it stays in place without banging against the back window. I ended up using a ratchet strap, wrapping it around the inside of the Gladiator back window and tightening the panels to the window. It works but why should I have to do that when other covers have a simple latch that secures it in place.
2. Taking the panels completely off is a super pain in the rear. It's a bolt on each side underneath the forward panel and its difficult to get to. Can't use a ratchet wrench because the threads are too deep. They should have used a bolt with a hand grip.
I installed a cover on son's Honda Ridgeline. It has both #1 and #2 above. Mopar can do better.
Overall: middling.
I chose this because it is a genuine Jeep accessory and figured you couldn’t go wrong with that + the warranty but would I buy again? No.
It looks decent enough but you’ll notice the L&R rails don’t look long enough (regardless of where I positioned them). So, really really, this is not going to be reliably waterproof. Also, there are no struts like other models have and you cannot open the closest compartment to the cab without folding the entire thing up. Additionally, the rubber seal on the passenger side rail was missing entirely on mine (again, waterproof it will not be!).
Installation, as others have mentioned, was harder than it needed to be. When I finished installing it, I was REALLY glad I was done and may have had a bourbon on the rocks, haha.
It is not bad but it is not great. I would advise others to go for another model that costs less and is essentially the same thing or a cost parity option that has more user-friendly features (struts, accessibility, etc.).
Before buying this product I asked if it would fit the 2021 gladiator and was told yes. First I was missing parts 19 and 18, one each. And when I did step 3.6 using part 16 bolt it would not thread into anything the holes were too big. I had to try and fit my hand between the cab and the truck bed to put a nut on the back which was almost impossible and very hard to get tight. Looks good once it’s on but I had better quality bed covers. Over priced.
