Reviews for Smittybilt 76931 Front Aluminum Grab Handles for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
These grab handles are very high end. Even the packaging is first class! I had bought a pair of Chinese junk ones on Amazon which didn't even fit and if they would have fit they would have interfered with the sun visors. Returned them and bought these as Smitty Built has a stellar reputation for quality. There is zero interference with the sun visors and they look fantastic. Very happy customer. Highly recommended!!
I put these in for my wife as our Jeep JKUR is her daily driver. These handles work great and don't interfere with the sunvisor. I really appreciated David H's review and recommendations for installation. The whole process went very smoothly EXCEPT for getting the lower bolt out of the A pillar. I stuffed 2" strips of cloth in the open place beneath the bolt inside the A pillar trim. Good thing because I couldn't get that bolt out before it wanted to drop. The first time I didn't have the area filled with the cloth to the level of the bolt. It dropped a little, and I had a terrible time retrieving it. I finally got a small magnetized DeWalt driver holder and got it contact the bolt to bring it close enough to the opening to grab it with needle nosed pliers. On the second side, I got the bolt almost all the way loose and then put the magnet on it. It came right out. I also stuffed the second side to the brim with the cloth--all the way to the front, rear, and sides of the A pillar trim--and it went much easier. I say 2" strips because I didn't remove the cloth until I had the spacer and bolt started--and there wasn't alot of room to pull the cloth out. I really think you could take the cloth out before you start the bolt and spacer as there's very little chance of dropping the spacer--especially if you start it first like David H suggested. I used a driver set for the bolts but needed a standard L shaped Allen wrench to finish the vertical bolt for clearance reasons--be sure you have one of those around. I would definitely recommend these!
Read a lot of reviews of A column metal grab bars and decided to give these a try. They are new from Smitty Built. Prompt shipping and receipt. Made of heavy aluminum in black finish. Prior to installation I sprayed WD-40 into the threaded holes and screwed the bolts into the side and top making sure they aligned and went in properly. Instructions said to start with the top bolt but I could not get the side bolt to align so I Inserted the side bolt 1st and then the top bolt and they both screwed in straight. Just be careful when aligning the side bolt as it goes in at a slightly downward angle. Took about 45 mins to install and they dont interfere with use of the sun visors. They are very rock solid, look better than all the other grab bars on the market, and are one of the best additions I have done to the interior of my jeep. They look and feel awesome! You won't regret buying them.
These things get scorching hot in the sun. I love how sturdy they feel and how easy they were to install. The box they come in say there are accessories that fit it so im searching and cant find much. Dont know what accessories you can buy but maybe smitty should post some on where you can get some. Overall I love them and are an upgrade from the velcro grab handles, which disintegrated over three years. Maybe my whife will make some kind of grab handle covers so i dont burn my hand.
Nice add on - primary reason was for friend that don’t have a Jeep and struggle to get in - adds a nice leverage point.
I have one issue. I live in Florida and the heat that builds up in the Jeep makes the handles too hot to grab. I had to install my own 'cushion or material' on the metal in order to keep from burning my hand when using them.(in the sun or not in the sun)
I like the sturdiness of the product! Easy to install.Great look and easy to use getting in and out of the Jeep.
