Reviews for Mopar Sun Bonnet for 18-20 Jeep Wrangler JL 2-Door
Awesome
The fit, function and look of the bonnet is cool. It blocks the hot Florida sun enough to enjoy the ride. Those mesh tops just don't work enough in Florida in my opinion which is why I wanted the vinyl top.
One negative is the vinyl is not very durable. One of the back snaps came off while I was driving on the highway. I heard it flapping but figured I would just fix it when I stopped. Well the flapping completely shredded the corner making it unusable... Luckily I work with some talented seamstresses who were able to repair and reenforce it.
I really wanted to like this. It gave great sun protection, was quiet, and looked good. I gave it two stars because the quality of materials is excellent, but its poor performance caused me to return it because the rear snaps wouldn't stay in place, making it unusable over 40-45 MPH.
This was either poorly designed, or poorly manufactured by MOPAR (CoverKing?). The rearmost snaps will not stay snapped at 50+ MPH. While the overall quality is good and the other connections line up perfectly, the last snaps seem to be too short to stay connected to their intended location. I had to stretch the fabric a little too much to snap it down. (See pic)
Also, there seem to be different "generations" of this. I think I have one of the newer covers, but it came with directions (dated 08/2019, K6862980AC) for a *slightly* different cover design. The sealed MOPAR box is marked P/N 82215391AC Dated- 06/22/20 (Reading the small print, it seems to have been made by CoverKing.) Interestingly, it doesn't look like the pictures for that part number on Mopar's website, even though it's the "same" item. Also, Mopar states that it replaces P/N 82215391AB. (A Google image search for this P/N results in the top I received.) I don't blame any of this on Quadratech. It seems like this is a Mopar supplier issue. Let the buyer beware...
PROS:
Looks good (see pic), quality materials, quiet.
CONS:
Won't stay on at 50+ MPH
Directions are for a similar cover, but not this exact cover. They are also vague in the placement of the fuzzy velcro strips for the roll bar. The drawing just shows it hanging off the edge of the roll bar by a couple inches.
The roll bar straps aren't long enough to go in the "strap keepers" (see pic)
On the plus side, Quadratec came through with a hassle free return! Thanks!
I was hoping this would perform as good as it looked but unfortunately it would not stay fastened in the back two snaps when traveling over 50mph. The only solution would have been to tape it down with heavy tape. Had to return after one day.
