Reviews for CURT 56407 Hitch Wiring Kit for 18-21 Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT
Works as advertised
Quick and easy to install.
First I own a 2018 Unlimited Sahara JL 4 door. Great product, Except the green wire to the passenger side tail lite is too short And if you do not have a repair shop style lift or any way to safely crawl under the length of the undercarriage to run the battery hook up to the wire you have a Issue. More research needed on a switched/non-switched connection in the rear of the JL models
Worked out well. Easy install.
Fairly easy and straight forward installation. Everything is there that you need, but I took the extra precaution of using shrink-fit connectors for more water tight connections.
I was hesitant to purchase this item due to the above one star review, however it came with the combo kit when buying the Quadratec 2" premium receiver. I was concerned about running the power wire until I watched several different videos and found there is no need to take apart all the interior paneling on one side of the Jeep to run it up the side. I simply ran the power wire, green wire harness for the passenger tail light and four pin connector down from the driver tail light, up and over the heat shield for the muffler, following the frame, all the way over to the passenger tail light. (I stopped running the four pin connector half way across the heat shield and dropped it down to the hitch in a convenient notch already in the heat shield). I then ran the green wire harness up into the passenger tail light and connected it. I had over 12" of extra green wire inside the tail lamp area. I then ran the power wire on the top of the passenger side frame rail all the way to the front of the Jeep. Along the way, I used the zip ties to secure the power wire to other wires running along the top of the frame rail. Once at the front, I routed the power wire through a hole on the inside of the frame rail, about 12" up and out the outside of a hole in the outside of the frame rail and right up the corner outside of the firewall, directly to the battery. As a side not, going in the frame rail and back out keeps the power wire away from the engine and right in-line to go up the out side corner of the firewall behind the wheel well plastic. I took me about 15-20 minutes to wire the whole thing. Don't let the power wire scare you, it is EASY!!!! I believe all of the new harnesses have to have a battery lead due to the new way the Jeeps are wired.
Not only is the ground wire ridiculously too short to make it even to the ground nut by the back seat, the whole thing just is terrible. The instructions included are NOT specific to the JL, and so leave you with a bit of guesswork to get things sorted. On my installation, the lead wire, attached at the fusebox shorted to a point of failure over about three weeks and ended up leaving the whole Jeep electrical system frozen. The jeep would not recognize the fob, or wake up at all until I disconnected the lead terminal entirely. Its a complete waste of 80 bucks. Go with the GM part. At least that is DESIGNED to work. I tried to save a few dollars by going with this item and ended up with a Jeep that was completely disabled by it!!! COMPLETE GARBAGE.
This is not like the JK installation. You must run a positive lead all the way to the battery. The green wire that goes to the passenger side is to short. There was no part to mount the trailer connection. The instructions says to take the paneling off to run the wire to the front. I snaked it through the whole behind the roll bar. Not happy with the product at all, many hours wasted and I need to do rework to clean it up.
