Reviews for Tuffy 349-01 Tailgate Lock Box for 18-22 Jeep Wrangler JL
I like the way this fits. First, they say to drill holes in the body covering on the tailgate. You can just pop the top inset off and avoid drilling holes in it in case you want to replace it later. Just drill holes in the bottom, location is clearly marked by jeep so no question on where to drill.
I put shelving matting inside to keep rattling to a minimum, holding it in place with magnets.
You lose a few inches of storage space near the tailgate, but I would normally keep a box of these type of roadside supplies in the back anyway.
Install in a few minutes, very easy and nice product. was a little upset that there were no drain holes, but i will put a few in myself since we have the windows off and top down a lot. Look at my unboxing and install video on Youtube under Wrangler JL Tuffy 346-01 tailgate lock box install.
Strong, holds computer bags easily, 20 minutes to fit, clear instructions. When used as table, fits a two-burner Coleman stove well. Doesn't rattle or squeak, well made.
Secure storge when the Jeep is topless.
Not used as much as thought but it rattle so I did remove but worked great for its purpose
This was easy to install and I like the quality. Excellent for the gun range, the beach and the day to day need to luck stuff up. I would have given this five stars but for the incessant rattling noise this equipment creates. I wanted to give this only 3 stars because of this but its benefits do outweigh the drawback. At first I used paper towels taped to the points of contact that caused the rattling. They worked great but didn't last. So I bought some very thin weather stripping and applied that. So far, so good. In my opinion though, for the money, it should come installed with that. The rattling was to the point i almost took the damn thing off and threw it threw my windshield.
Seems to be pretty good so far. The little shelves that go in there are not secured very well. Some off-roading and things bouncing around in there, knocked the shelves lose. I've tried to pack it right so all is fairly tight. The mounting holes for the box were off just a bit, so once mounted, the box was not level with the door/floor, so I had to make a slight adjustment. Works with Tuffy rear cargo cover.
Need to install a rubber seal to stop rattles. Good quality, make sure your holes line up.
I was really excited about this box, but it has not turned out well. The installation was more difficult than it should have been because the bottom two holes did not line up very well and I had to enlarge them to make them fit my 2020 JL 2-door. It was also missing the screws to hold on the shelves, so I had to go to the hardware store to get those. The worst part is it's really too heavy for the tailgate. Once installed my tailgate started sagging a bit and not closing properly. I took it to the dealer to see if that could be corrected or reinforced and they said no. I do also have the reinforced Mopar hinges but that did not help. I also still have the OEM tire so no added weight there. I have decided to take this off because it's not worth damaging my door. It seems to be a sturdy well-made box. Very unfortunate it's not going to work.
