Reviews for Borla S-Type 2.5" Dual Axle Back Exhaust for 18-23 Jeep Wrangler JL with 3.6L
Great look and great sound. It is louder then I expected, but I'm ok with that. Borla has one louder version of this exhaust, the Atak, if you're looking for even louder... but this is plenty for me. Very easy install. Took me about 45 minutes, without using a car lift. Just make sure you have Exhaust Hanger Removal Pliers to make the job easier. Pipe slides right in without any modifications.
The installation is very easy, so long as you have exhaust hanger removal pliers. But that's not really Borla's design though. It's easy because of FCA's engineers. So I won't credit Borla's kit for that.
What did Borla get right? The sound, naturally. Their engineers did a wonderful job with the design of the chambers to produce that deep tone that sounds significantly better than stock and just enough volume (in the S-Type) to be reminded of the 3.6L Pentastar under the hood.
Unfortunately though, Borla's black powdercoat finish is subpar. I expected better. Within a week, the powercoat in the tips has flaked and come off, mostly on the inside of both tips. I'd hoped for a bit better quality finish for the price, but maybe my expectations of Borla are a bit high.
Also, the claims about drone seem, to me, to be exaggerated. On my Rubicon with 4.10 gearing and stock 33's, there is a definite drone between 72mph and 80mph. Now, I don't normally drive it on the tollway so I don't see those speeds often, but the drone is definitely there. Next month I'm getting 5.13 gears and moving up to 37's, which will shift the RPM a bit for highway driving. Hopefully the drone is gone after that (or replaced by the whistling of Mickey Thompson Bajas).
