The 1941 Willys MB had made its name in reliability and mobility in the theater of the second world war. By 1944 Willys dropped the shovel and axe mounts and added a civilian friendly tailgate, side mounted spare tire and rudimentary canvas canopy top. Sold as the CJ-2A, and introducing the seven slot grille for the first time, the "Agrijeep" was released to the masses. For the next 25 years minor changes led to the CJ-3A & CJ-3B which remained rural vehicles until introduction of the CJ-5 and CJ-6. In 1972 when AMC took control, Jeep's saw sweeping changes to the drivetrain and body which made it more popular as a daily vehicle, with more comfort and power. This popularity propelled the CJ's through the decade into the CJ-7 and CJ-8 models which ended in 1986.
